"No," Mike says, and the entire time he's staring enviously at those lips. The fact Liam has his cigarette doesn't bother him at all. It's a reminder of his place, and he's not exactly happy about it, but he understands why. It's a part of Liam.

mike doesn't kid himself, he knows he doesn't know all about Liam and how he works. Sometimes, though, he thinks he knows some of it.
